2017 September Update

Dear Members,

Happy Saturday to you from The Bay. Yesterday marked the beginning of one of our favorite seasons…the opening of pheasant season at Sutton Bay! This is the perfect month for you to achieve the great triumvirate of Golf * Hunt * Fish on a visit to the Club.

We were truly blessed with over 8″ of rain this past month and most of it was evening rain. Thus almost no golfers were rained out. Sutton Bay is now as green as Ireland, and our food plots are as tall and healthy as ever. The golf course continues to look great, and the fisherman have been doing well on the water. Add in the start of football season, and we will have a lot of fun this fall. As a reminder, we do have the Big Ten Network, so many of you to be able to watch your favorite schools. Plus, we added a DVR to the TV in the Cigar Room, so we are happy to record a game for you while you are on the links, in the field or on the water.

Yes, we are very thankful to the month of August. Not only did August bring much needed rain, but also our other prayers were answered with the arrival of our returning H-2B visa workers. USCIS and DHS approved another 15,000 visas, and our team was able to utilize the newly allotted visas. Thus we are at full strength for the fall run! Also, we are happy to report that this past August was the best August in history of the Club. We are very thankful to our members and their guests for choosing to spend so many of their days here at Sutton Bay. We had never had 700 room nights in the month of August, and this past August we had 832!

Again, I would like to thank our entire team at Sutton Bay for all their hard work, and their smile & hustle attitude. Providing first-class, and sincere service to our members & guests, with extreme pride in Sutton Bay is our mission everyday.

We hosted our first Rattlesnake Round-Up on August 24-26, and while we didn’t have quite as many people as The Invitational, we had almost as much fun. We added as part of the event a featured wine during our cocktail hours and dinners. Thursday was a wine tasting before dinner, Friday was a wine pairing with dinner and Saturday again a wine tasting, featuring some of the wonderful wines from Jessup Cellars.

The golf played in the event was spectacular, with many people having some of their best rounds. Our beloved designer, Graham Marsh bested his age by three shots on Friday, along with Tyler Hadden dunking a seven iron on #6 for a 2. As good as that was it was not enough to hunt down our Champions of the 2017 Rattlesnake Round-Up. Congratulations to the team of Mike Burgers, Mark Burgers, Ryan Johnson, & Greg Niederauer as they posted a combined score of 415 in this very unique & fun format. Shooting 423, our Runner-Up squad was comprised of Doug Hutcherson, Thornton Withers, Kyle Rausch & Fred Nadeau.

On Course Closest to the Hole Winners were:
Friday – #5-Graham Marsh, #7-Dana Dyhouse, #13-Fred Nadeau, #17-Jim Harrenga
Saturday – #5-Graham Marsh, #7-Graham Marsh, #13-Greg Niederauer, #17-Mark Benedetto

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you all for playing. Please plan on joining us on the same weekend next year for The Sutton Bay Cup, as the Cowboys will try to hold off the Indians and retain The Cup! We will update you later this fall with more information.

Thanks again to our great membership, we appreciate you visiting us and we hope you will leave here with many long-lasting, cherished memories. Take care.

All my best,

Fred Nadeau, PGA
General Manager
