August 2017 Update

Dear Members,

Greetings from The Bay! I hope this finds you well and having a wonderful summer. The month of July has flown by and we have had an incredible month here at the Club. We would like to thank so many of you for visiting us. And judging from the smiles and feedback you definitely added more great memories at Sutton Bay.

Thanks to our Superintendent, Kyle Rausch and our golf course maintenance team, the golf course is in terrific shape. Also, our Executive Chef Doug Rauner and our F&B team have provided some amazing cuisine for all of us. Tyler Hadden, Cody McCann and our golf staff had a great month, as did Mandy Brandenburger & Kari Rogers taking care of your logistics. Also, a big thank you to Diane Clifford and her staff for keeping the rooms so beautiful and well-appointed for our members and guests.

The month of July showcases one of our premier events, the Sutton Bay Invitational. The Invitational was played over this past weekend, and what a hit! We had our largest field ever with 30 teams and a total of 60 players. We split the field into 5 – six team flights. Within each flight, we play 5 – nine hole matches, thus you play every team in your flight once. Each hole in a match is worth a point and the overall match is worth one point as well. It is a great format that allows for more members and their guests to play with others, which is exactly what you like to have at a Club.

Following the five matches, the five flight winners and the two teams with the highest point totals that didn’t win their flights do battle in a three-hole, alternate shot shootout. Following the onslaught of birdies and pars, there was one team left standing, and that was the father-son team of Scott & Erik Anderson. Also, special congratulations to Jim Brown’s guest, Blake Palmer. Blake dunked a 52 degree sand wedge on Saturday on Hole #5! This was Blake’s first and there are not many prettier par 3’s to get your first ace. The weather was perfect all weekend, the golf was amazing, and the “fun factor” was on tilt.

Overall Champions: Scott & Erik Anderson

Flight Winners: Flight One – Jim Harrenga & Justin Stofferahn
Flight Two – Jim Brown & Blake Palmer
Flight Three – Brad Severson & Mike McGrath
Flight Four – Bill Berry & Steve Slowey
Flight Five – Rob Ness & Dexter Noess

Par 3 Two Man Scramble: 1ST Place – Fred Nadeau & Matt Begeman
2ND Place – Jeff Smith & Derek Maunus
3RD Place – Micah Aberson & Scott Aberson

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you all for playing!

The next and final major golf event of the year is the Rattlesnake Round-Up. We have a very good field of approximately 30 players, but we would love to have another 3-4 teams and fill up this special place.

Again, the Rattlesnake Round-Up is a great format, and allows you to bring fellow Sutton Bay members, guests, or a combination. Graham Marsh will be joining us and is playing in the event, and we will have the team from Jessup Cellars and Handwritten wines here for the Round-Up. Thursday night’s cocktail party will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres and carving stations with a Jessup & Handwritten wine tasting. Friday night will have a wine pairing with our plated courses. Saturday will another tasting during cocktail hour followed by our infamous Sutton Bay BBQ & Pig roast.

Team set-up and format below Event Schedule. Please come out for this event, I promise you if you play it once, you will be hooked!

The Rattlesnake will be played with four person teams posting a combined 108 hole score over two days (Each player only plays 27 holes per day). You can sign up for the event as a single, a pair, threesome, or a complete foursome. The teams are formed with A, B, C, & D players based on handicap. We will balance out the teams that do not sign up as a foursome. The beauty of this event is that while you score as a four person team, you never play with more than one other member of your team. We pair two members of each team with two members from another team. Thus you have the opportunity to meet many other members and their guests.
