February 2017 Update

Dear Members,

Greetings from the Bay! I hope you had a great Super Bowl Sunday. It was a terrific game and we can all sympathize for those heart-broken Atlanta Falcon fans out there.

I trust some of you were able to watch and maybe even attend the Phoenix Open prior to the big game on Sunday. This PGA Tour event is a lot of fun to watch with the huge crowds, and gets me very excited for the upcoming golf season. The Stadium course at TPC Scottsdale was designed by fellow Sutton Bay member, Tom Weiskopf, and provides an atmosphere like none other in golf. Plus with the beautiful weather in the desert, it will definitely make one want to hop on a plane and head south for at least a few days.

The month of January flew by for me as I spent much of the month on the road. First, Kurt Letellier and I traveled to Las Vegas in mid-January for the Shot Show. Kurt and I were able to see the latest and greatest from the world of hunting, as this is one of the largest gun shows to take place in America. Following the Shot Show, Tyler Hadden and I headed off to Orlando for the PGA Merchandise Show. This is of course the largest trade show in golf, and Tyler & I were able to visit with many, many companies to see their latest lines for 2017. Peter Millar continues to be the industry leader, but we found some other awesome lines for men & women that we will have in this coming season.

We announced our star events last fall for 2017; the Sutton Bay Invitational and our new biennial event, the Rattlesnake Round-Up. Our complete calendar for 2017 is on the website and listed below. Our Invitational filled up right away, and we have several players and teams signed up for the Round-Up.

We are pleased to announce the club will be open again on Wednesday, May 17TH and our season will be ending on Sunday, December 10TH.

2017 Sutton Bay Event Schedule

Couples Weekend
June 23-25
This weekend is open to both members and their guests. It is intended for couples to relax, socialize and perhaps meet new Sutton Bay friends. You are welcome to set your own schedule, or let us create organized activities for your group. Traditionally we will have live entertainment on Saturday night!

Sutton Bay Invitational – Member / Guest
July 27-30
The Invitational is by far our most popular and longest running event at the club, with 2017 being the 11th year. We are excited to offer a new format that many of us are familiar with playing. We will be utilizing the 9-Hole Two Man Mat Play format with six team flights. This will allow you to play with five different members & their guests, as opposed to two. We will crown a champion on Saturday afternoon with the Sutton Bay Shootout and the awards dinner for Saturday evening. We have moved the event to the more traditional days of Thursday to Saturday, so one does not have to take as many days away from their work week, and allows for Sunday travel day. We have space for 24 teams, and we will maintain a waiting list after that.

Rattlesnake Round-Up – Member / Member
August 24-27

The first biennial Rattlesnake Round-Up will be hosted at the club on the dates mentioned above. The event will be played with four person teams posting a combined 108 hole score over two days (each player only plays 27 holes per day). You can sign up for the event as a single, a pair, triplets, or a complete foursome. The teams are formed with A, B, C & D players based on handicap. We will balance out the teams that do not sign up as a foursome. The sheer beauty of this event is that while you score as a four person team, you never play with more than one other member of your team. We pair two members of each team with two members from another team. Thus you have the opportunity to meet many other members of Sutton Bay.

Ammo’s Labor Day Family Weekend
September 1-4
This weekend is designed to celebrate the closing of another great “summer” season, with organized (optional) activities during the day and live music one evening. There is usually a great turnout, please make sure to reserve your spot!

Family Hunt Weekend
October 27-29
A weekend designated to bring the entire family; hunters of all skill levels are welcome. Our experienced guides will work with kids and novice hunters on gun safety, shooting techniques and instruction during live hunting in the fields. And after a great day in the field maybe a special dinner menu awaits you? Please give as a call to make your arrangements!

Year End Hunt
December 4-5
There is nothing better than two days of great hunting and club camaraderie to close out the season at your favorite club. Open to members and guests. Please come and join this annual event and bring your friends, family, or clients with you. Last chance to bring some pheasants home with you!

Many of you have already booked visits for 2017, in fact, we already have 3,000 room nights booked for this season! Please be sure to contact Mandy & Kari to schedule your trip(s) at 605.264.5530 or reservations@suttonbay.com as soon as possible.

We have a few memberships yet available, and again we thank you for your support in that area. Member testimonials always carry the most weight when people select a Club. Club memberships are built through friendships. Please feel free to refer any friends interested, and I am happy to answer any questions and assist in the Membership process.

Again, I would like to mention our brand new event – The Rattlesnake Round-Up. The Rattlesnake Round-Up will be played with four person teams posting a combined 108 hole score over two days (Each player only plays 27 holes per day). You can sign up for the event as a single, a pair, threesome, or a complete foursome. The teams are formed with A, B, C, & D players based on handicap. We will balance out the teams that do not sign up as a foursome. The sheer beauty of this event is that while you score as a four person team, you never play with more than one other member of your team. We pair two members of each team with two members from another team. Thus you have the opportunity to meet many other members of Sutton Bay.
