Sutton Bay Update April 2017

Dear Members,

Greetings from Sutton Bay and I hope this finds you well. I trust like me, many of you were able to enjoy your Sunday watching another riveting final round of the Masters. It is truly amazing to see the transformation of Americans’ feelings towards Sergio Garcia. Sergio commented that he felt like he was back in Spain with the way the crowds were pulling for him. Congratulations Sergio and a true showing of class and sportsmanship by Justin Rose!

For many of us, the Masters is the signal to pull our golf clubs out of winter hibernation, and get ready for another golf season. Thus I hope you are as excited as us for the 2017 season at The Bay! We are just 35 days away from opening our wonderful golf course and the start of another great year. Opening Day at Sutton Bay is Wednesday, May 17TH, and we still have good availability in May and June. Early season fishing has been good in the area. Late May and June are some of our best months for fishing so make sure to call us today to book your first visit.

I am happy to announce that our reservations are well ahead of last year at this time. Please be sure to book your trips as soon as possible as many popular dates are filling up both in our golf & hunting seasons.

Our two major golf events for 2017 are the Sutton Bay Invitational on July 27-30 and the Rattlesnake Round-Up on August 24-27. The Invitational field was expanded for this year, and still filled up immediately. If you would like to play please contact us and we will add your name to the waiting list. Our other event is the brand new Rattlesnake Round-Up, and has one of the best formats you could ever play. The event will be scheduled to be played every other year, opposite of the Sutton Bay Cup. The Rattlesnake Round-Up was initially structured to be a Member-only event, but we have found several people interested that would like to bring a guest and show off Sutton Bay. Thus with just a few teams signed up right now, we would like to open the event to you and your guest(s). Team set-up and format below Event Schedule.

One other announcement for our calendar is our Year End Hunt dates. In the past the year end hunt was a fun, but brief two day event that was a Monday and Tuesday. As it may be difficult to make the Year End Hunt over a two-day span and enjoy extended hunts with ½ price extra pheasants, that we would run that special for the entire 10-day span. Book your dates now, and we promise to have plenty of ice for your sore shoulders.

2017 Sutton Bay Event Schedule

Couples Weekend
June 23-25
This weekend is open to both members and their guests. It is intended for couples to relax, socialize and perhaps meet new Sutton Bay friends. You are welcome to set your own schedule, or let us create organized activities for your group. Traditionally we will have live entertainment on Saturday night!

Sutton Bay Invitational – Member / Guest
July 27-30
The Invitational is by far our most popular and longest running event at the club, with 2017 being the 11th year. We are excited to offer a new format that many of us are familiar with playing. We will be utilizing the 9-Hole Two Man Match Play format with six team flights. This will allow you to play with five different members & their guests, as opposed to just two. We will crown a champion on Saturday afternoon with the Sutton Bay Shootout and the awards dinner for Saturday evening. We have moved the event to the more traditional days of Thursday to Saturday, so one does not have to take as many days away from their work week, and allows for Sunday travel day. We have space for 24 teams, and we will maintain a waiting list after that.

Rattlesnake Round-Up – Member / Member or Guest(s)
August 24-27
The first biennial Rattlesnake Round-Up will be hosted at the club on the dates mentioned above. The event will be played with four person teams posting a combined 108 hole score over two days (each player only plays 27 holes per day). You can sign up for the event as a single, a pair, threesome, or a complete foursome. The teams are formed with A, B, C & D players based on handicap. We will balance out the teams that do not sign up as a foursome. The beauty of this event is that while you score as a four person team, you never play with more than one other member of your team. We pair two members of each team with two members from another team. Thus you have the opportunity to meet many other members of Sutton Bay.

Ammo’s Labor Day Family Weekend
September 1-4
This weekend is designed to celebrate the closing of another great “summer” season, with organized (optional) activities during the day and live music one evening. There is usually a great turnout, please make sure to reserve your spot!

Family Hunt Weekend
October 27-29
A weekend designated to bring the entire family; hunters of all skill levels are welcome. Our experienced guides will work with kids and novice hunters on gun safety, shooting techniques and instruction during live hunting in the fields. And after a great day in the field maybe a special dinner menu awaits you? Please give as a call to make your arrangements!

Year End Hunt
December 1-10
Because there was nothing better than two days of great hunting and club camaraderie to close out the season at your favorite club, we decided to extend it from December 1ST through the last day of the season on December 10TH. Open to members and guests. Plus, EXTRA PHEASANTS will be at ½ price for the month! Please come and join this annual event that is now expanded and bring your friends, family, or clients with you. Last chance to bring some pheasants home with you!

Many of you have already booked visits for 2017, in fact, we already have 3,700 room nights booked for this season! Please be sure to contact Mandy & Kari to schedule your trip(s) at 605.264.5530 or reservations@suttonbay.com as soon as possible.

Golf Course

Again, I would like to mention our brand new event – The Rattlesnake Round-Up. The Rattlesnake Round-Up will be played with four person teams posting a combined 108 hole score over two days (Each player only plays 27 holes per day). You can sign up for the event as a single, a pair, threesome, or a complete foursome. The teams are formed with A, B, C, & D players based on handicap. We will balance out the teams that do not sign up as a foursome. The beauty of this event is that while you score as a four person team, you never play with more than one other member of your team. We pair two members of each team with two members from another team. Thus you have the opportunity to meet many other members and their guests.
